  • India becomes the first country in the world to ratify the pro-blinds Marrakesh Treatycat
  • Sujit Choudhry becomes the first Indian-American Dean of the Berkeley Law School, University of California.  
    • He gets a five-year term beginning July 2014 as the 12th dean of the world-famous Law school.
  • Pranav Mukherjee presents the Sant Kabir Awards, Shilp Guru Awards andNational Awards for Handicrafts and Handlooms for the year 2011.  
    • The annual awards honour the outstanding contribution of weavers and artisans to their craft.
    • Sant Kabir Award, established in 2009, is conferred on outstanding weavers. 
    • Shilp Guru Awards, established in 2002, are given to master artisan of handicrafts for preservation of rich and diverse craft heritage
    • The National Awards, in circulation since 1965, are presented in two categories namely in Handicrafts and Handlooms.
  • Union government inaugurates 'First Aid Post' at Shastri Bhawan, New Delhi.  
    • The unit will provide first aid services like blood pressure monitoring, dressing and other referral services to about 15000 employees of various Ministries posted at Shastri Bhawan and other nearby Government offices.
    • The capital already has five such health posts under Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) at Central Secretariat, Parliament House, Vitthal Bhai Patel House, Supreme Court and Nirman Bhawan premises.
  • Trial run of nation's fastest train between Delhi and Agra is conducted by the Indian Railways.  
    • The train, expected to clock maximum speed of 160 kmph, will reduce the travel time by half an hour to 90 minutes only (earlier 2 hours).
    • No new track has been laid out for this semi high-speed train.
  • "Bank of Maharashtra" is conferred on the “Best Bank - Public Sector” award inBFSI Awards 2014 by World HRD Congress in recognition of its performance in Banking category.  
    • The award focuses on the best practices of the BFSI Industry based on the Strategy, Security, Customer Service and the Future Technology Challenges and Innovations.
    • The bank has also bagged 4 other awards 'Bank with Most Admired Services', 'Bank with Best Customer Orientation', 'Bank with Best Technology Orientation' and 'Corporate Communication Award'.
  • APM Mohammed Hanish has been appointed as the Nodal Officer for the matches likely to be held in Kochi during the 2017 Fifa U-17 World Cup.  
    • The appointment done by Kerala government is in tune with Fifa's direction.
    • The senior IAS officer will oversee the infrastructure and development work related to the hosting of event. 
    • India will be hosting an international football competition of this magnitude for the first time ever.
    • Its the 17th edition of U-17 World Cup.
