By 2030, India to become 3rd largest economy: PwC
As per the latest estimates by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), India will become the third largest economy in the world by 2030. According to the London-based accountancy giant, the rapid rise of the Indian economy with its young workforce would thrust it up from being the 10th largest economy in 2013 to the 3rdlargest by 2030, pushing the UK back into 6th place.
By 2030, as per PwC, the world’s second largest economy- China is expected to reduce the gap with the US. Mexico is forecasted to be the 10th largest economy above Canada and Italy, both G7 nations. A few years back there were predictions that Britain would rapidly become a second-class economic power and would need to defer to the BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India and China) countries in the near future.
Study shows whales are “ecosystem engineers”
As per a new study, whales have a powerful and positive influence on the function of oceans, global carbon storage, and the health of commercial fisheries. Scientists tallied several decades of research on whales from around the world, have discovered that whales, in fact, make a huge impact on ocean ecosystem.
As per scientists, the population of whales has declined by at least 66% and perhaps as high as 90% which has likely changed the structure and function of the oceans, but recovery is possible and in many cases is already in progress.
“Great whales” which include Baleen and Sperm whales, include the largest animals to have ever existed on Earth. They are the ocean’s ecosystem engineers as they have huge metabolic demands they consume many fish and invertebrates, are themselves prey to other predators like killer whales, and circulate nutrients through the water.
Even their dead remains, excreta, provide habitat for many species that only dwell on these “whale falls.” The biomass and abundance of great whales has been dramatically reduced by commercial whaling.
Indian nurses return home through Special Air India flight
About a month long ordeal of 46 nurses, who were held captive by ISIS militants in Iraq, ended as they returned home by a special Air India flight. The suffering for these nurses who were working at a hospital in Saddam Hussein’s hometown of Tikrit, began when ISIS (Islamic State for Iraq and Syria) militants launched an offensive in that region on June 9, 2014.
The nurses were moved out against their will and detained in the militant-held city of Mosul. India’s External Affairs Ministry and other top Indian authorities were in constant touch with their counterparts in Iraq for the safe release of nurses. Finally, the efforts of Indian government fructified into their release and reunion with their families.
