The prestigious Rajiv Gandhi National Quality Awards for the year 2012 were announced by Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Ram Vilas Paswan on 26 August 2014. The awards are given by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).
- Best of All Award: Rail Wheel factory (Ministry of Railways), Bangalore
- Large scale service industries: Tata Business Support Services Limited, Hyderabad
- Large scale manufacturing industries: Sakthi Masala P. Ltd., Erode, Tamil Nadu
- Small scale manufacturing industries: Elin Appliances Pvt. Ltd., Solan, Himachal Pradesh
Other than these nine organizations have been selected for commendation certificates under various categories.
About Rajiv Gandhi National Quality Awards
The Rajiv Gandhi National Quality Award is the national quality award given by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) to Indian manufacturing and service organizations that show excellence in their performance. It was introduced in 1991 after the death of former Prime Minister of India, Rajiv Gandhi.
The award aims to promote quality services to the consumers and to give special recognition to organizations that contribute significantly towards the quality movement of India.
There are five awards consisting of one for large scale manufacturing organizations, one for Medium, Small and Micro scale manufacturing organizations, one for large scale service sector organizations, one for Medium, Small and Micro scale service sector organizations and one for BEST OF ALL.
These awards carry a cash prize of 500000 rupees for BEST OF ALL category, 200000 rupees for each winner in respective categories and 100000 rupees for each winner of commendation certificate.
