Ravi Shastri appointed as the Director of Indian Cricket Team

The Board of Cricket Control India (BCCI) appointed Ravishankar Jayadritha Shastri as the Director of Indian Cricket Team on 19 August 2014. The decision came after seeing defeat of Indian Cricket Team in Test series against England.
Ravi Shastri would be assisting the team for the upcoming ODI series (25 August 2014-5 September 2014) and a single Twenty-20 (7 September 2014) against England. He would be handling overall cricket affairs of the team. However, Duncan Fletcher will continue to serve as the head coach of the team. 

Sanjay Bangar, former all-rounder and Bharat Arun, former Indian pacer were named as the assistant coaches of the Indian Cricket Team. R Sridhar, a former Ranji Trophy player for Hyderabad, would be the Fielding Coach of the Indian Cricket Team for the ODI series.

Ravi Shastri, a former all-rounder, played around 80 Test Matches and 150 ODIs for India. He earned a total of 151 Test wickets and 129 ODI wickets. He made a record of hitting six sixes in an over in First Class Cricket.

It is for the second time that Ravi Shastri has been appointed for team management. Before that, he was appointed as an interim coach of Indian Cricket Team against Bangladesh in 2007 World Cup when BCCI sacked Greg Chappell.
