Chandrakala Padia was on 4 September 2014 appointed as first women chairperson of Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS).She succeeded the former West Bengal Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi.
Currently, she is working as Vice-Chancellor of Maharaja Ganga Singh University in Bikaner. She was a visiting associate of IIAS. She was National Fellow at the Indian Institute of Advanced Studies in 2003-04.
Professor Padia’s areas of specialisation include political theory, Indian and Western political thought, women’s studies, Gandhian studies and human rights.
In 2002, she edited Feminism, Tradition and Modernity, published by the IIAS, which questions the western understanding of feminism. Currently, she is working as Vice-Chancellor of Maharaja Ganga Singh University in Bikaner. She was a visiting associate of IIAS.
