Himachal Pradesh High Court on 1 September 2014 banned animals sacrifice in religious places in Himachal Pradesh.
The high court bench comprised of Justice Rajeev Sharma and Justice Sureshwar Thakur ordered that no person will sacrifice any animal in any place of worship. It includes adjoining lands and buildings.
The court has directed all senior government and police officials to impose the ban after a petition was filed by animal rights activists, Rajeshwar Negi raising concern about animal sacrifice in many places ranging from big temples to small village temples.
The Court ordered animals sacrifice cannot permitted since the sacrifice causes immense pain and suffering to innocent animals and found that thousands of animals are sacrificed every year in the name of worship.
