Rajasthan government on 15 August 2014 re-launched the ambitious Bhamashah scheme to empower woman in the State. The scheme was launched by Vasundhara Raje, the Chief Minister of Rajasthan on the eve of Independence Day from the Lake City Udaipur.
The Bhamashah scheme with a provisioning of 600 crore rupees from the Rajasthan government was formally launched by handing over the first Bhamashah card to Shanta Bai, a resident of Udaipur.
Besides, the first Bhamashah Enrolment Camp was started through video-conferencing in Kota.

The Highlights of the Scheme
- Under the scheme, a bank account will be open on the name of woman head of the family to channelize all financial entitlement in her bank account.
- The card issued under Bhamashah scheme would also work as an identity card for the people of Rajasthan.
- All the social benefit of Bhamashah scheme would flow through e-facilities provided by the state government.
- Under the scheme 1.5 crore bank accounts will be opened and 2000 rupees will be deposited by the state government in those accounts.
Background
The Bhamashah scheme was announced in February 2008 during his earlier stint as Chief Minister of the State. Under the scheme then 45.78 lakh women were enrolled, 8000 cards were issued and 29.07 lakh bank accounts were opened. The government was also deposited 160 crore rupees in the banks, but scheme discontinued as the BJP lost the power in assembly elections.
