1) There are four sections, each must be tackled differently.

2) Current Affairs: This is scoring section, read current affairs well, it can score u easily 30+ marks in 15 mins.
  • Current Affairs (National & International news –l ast 5 to 6 months)
  • Sports
  • Scientific Research
  • New Inventions
  • Indian Economy
  • Banking , Insurance and Financial Sector ( Last 5-6 months )
  • Important days
  • Capitals & currencies
You can also expect 4-5 questions from insurance sector. You don’t really have to worry about this part, the
basics will do. Read insurance history, and basic terminologies of insurance sector from IRDA site. You can also
download pdf’s and give a reading. But I will advise you not to give too much time in it and focus more on current
 affairs section.

3) English: if u are good at it try 30, else try to manage the cut off. Don’t waste your time too much if you are not
being able to score this high. You can utilize your time in quant or reasoning if you are good at them. Don’t give
more than 20 minutes here.
  • Para Jumble
  • Spot the Error
  • Comprehension
  • Fill in the Blanks
  • Idioms & Phrases
  • Synonyms-Antonyms
  • One word Substitution
4) Reasoning: this is the most scoring section, give 40 minutes, and try to do about 30-35.
  • Series & Alphabet
  • Blood Relations
  • Statement & Conclusion
  • Ranking/Arrangement
  • Syllogisms
  • Seating Arrangement
  • Coding- Decoding
  • Data Sufficiency & analysis
  • Direction Test
  • Analogy & Classification

5) Quant: This is lengthy section, only try to get above cut -off, generally 20-25 answers will do.
If you can manage to score more than 25, then it’s too good. 30 minutes can be given to this section.
  • Number Series
  • Simplification
  • Time and Distance
  • Time and Work
  • Data Interpretation
  • Partnership
  • Profit & Loss
  • Simple & Compound interest
  • Simplification
  • Permutations & Combinations
  • Mixture & Allegation
  • Percentage

So, u can easily manage to get about 130-135 score out of 160…!!

TIPS TO INCREASE ENGLISH SCORE:

English can’t be improved in a day or two. It needs as much as a year or two to improve.
Do following things regularly:
  • Try mug up word meanings in English only (not in Hindi/regional language). When you learn it, do not forget
  •  to put it into use in your daily life. This will help you remember it.
  • Read one good newspaper daily, like The Hindu, Indian Express or Business Standard, especially the
  • editorial part. Sit with a dictionary and try to understand deep meaning of every sentence.
  • Read as much novels as you can, and start with topics of your interest, but keep in mind to gradually shift
  •  from topics of interest to other topics as well. If not novels, try reading out articles of magazines like PD,
  •  BSC Chronicle. Apart from increasing your score in objective ones, it will also help you to boost your
  •  writing ability in descriptive papers.
  • Daily write at least two pages, it may be essay or your daily diary or anything, and get it corrected from
  •  somebody knowing good English. This is most important, as it will help you use what you have learnt,
  •  and then you will never forget.
  • Try conversing in English to your friend or relative who is good at it, and even in networking sites and
  • education sites like here you do on BA. Tell them to correct you if you go wrong anywhere.
Now, coming to the Descriptive Part:
3 questions
  • Essay
  • Letter
  • Précis Writing
All are mandatory, no choice to leave.

Time: 45 minutes

ESSAY:
Read and understand the topics
  • Make sure you are clear about what the topic is asking, don’t beat around the bush
  • Chose a topic wisely and of your comfort zone. It’s nothing like if you attempt a tough one you will get good
  •  marks. You must know what you are writing
  • Try to write your essay in 4-5 paragraphs. A short introductory paragraph telling about the topic, then two
  •  to three paragraphs about the content. Make sure the paragraphs are not too lengthy, 5 to 6 lines maximum
  • . A different thing /topic in a different paragraph, citing examples will make it look even better. Add data if
  •  you are very sure of them, this also gives a strong base to your essay. Make the last paragraph “eye
  •  catching”, short and concluding in nature.
  • Don’t repeat the points.
  • Make sure you use punctuations and whatever you write, even if it’s short, must be grammatically correct.
PRECIS WRITING:
In this a paragraph will be given to you. You must read it thoroughly, understand the basic point, and get an idea
about the key points to be extracted while writing the précis. Now frame a précis of about one - third the length of
the original paragraph. Try using your own words, substituting one word for a group of words. It is also advisable
to give a 4-5 word topic to your précis.

COMPREHENSION:
It is just like the ones you solve in objective paper. Instead of ticking out the right answer as you do in objective
one, here you have to type the answers in your words, but remember that the main idea of the comprehension
should not be changed. Don’t add your own facts and quotes; mention only those points that have been mentioned
 in the comprehension.
